Scripture for the Day Jan 1st 2021: Haggai 1:5

There are two reasons why it can be good to make New Year's resolutions. First, it forces us to look at ourselves and be honest about our failures and our need to change. The exercise of examining ourselves with God's help and seeing where we fall short is important.

Second, making a list of resolutions can turn us to God, if we include Him. If we are honest, we know we fall short of being what God wants us to be, and because of that, we need God's grace, mercy, and forgiveness. The best outcome for us is when we realize that we cannot live God's way in our own strength. We need God's help.

Haggai 1:5
“Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.”

When I first became a Christian, my spiritual mentor, Myriam, a woman of God who did not accept compromises or shortcuts in matters concerning the LORD, always taught me, SURRENDER your will to HiS. It took me five painful years of suffering the consequences of "I did it my way". But when it mattered most when I had to make a substantial decision that would prove my loyalty to God, my faith in His Word, I made the decision that God wanted me to make, and He honored me for it. 

Let us, therefore, pledge today, to surrender all to Jesus. God will have your back if you do!

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all,
I surrender all,
All to thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee,
Fill me with thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to his name!
