Scripture for the Day Oct 30th 2020: Instant Protection
Devotional
Psalms 91:10
“There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”
On Monday, I proved with scripture that worshiping God is the secret to receiving God's protection and response to our asks. In that post, I suggested something radical: to worship God seven times a day and set reminders, seven of them, every day.
Because I want God's protection throughout the day just the same, I set up seven reminders per day as I suggested you do. I get up early, so my reminders go from 5:55 AM, every two hours till 5:55 PM. Why at 5 minutes before the hour? Because I have a lot of client meetings throughout the day, most start on top of the hour. Having 5 minutes before a meeting to dedicate a minute to God is practical. I did this with some hesitance initially, because I realized, once I set my alarms, there was no going back lest I would forsake God and my obligation to worship Him. But we cannot cheat God, not ever. Would I really be able to live with a lifetime of seven Godly alarms a day? I decided to let God deal with that and did it anyway.
Many life coaches say that it takes 66 days to form a new habit. But with God, things are different. Here is what happened in these short four days.
Initially, the alarm would go off and interrupt whatever I was doing: thinking about a problem, editing a manuscript, writing a piece. But I forced myself to discipline, stopped what I was doing, and worshiped the Lord for at least a minute. If you want to know how to worship the God, look at Psalms 66 and others. It's easy. Remember, worship is thanking God for Who He is. Praise is thanking God for what He has done. I tell my soul, especially when I am busy, Bless the Lord O My soul: Genesis 27:4, Psalms 103:1, 104:1, 104:35, 115:12, 135:19-20. Why? Because the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41). As soon as I command my soul (my flesh) to bless the Lord, my heart softens. Amazing.
Even more remarkable is what happened next.
Day four, and the time for worship approached. But I didn't need the reminder. Instead, God pinged me before the phone did. I already craved the act of worshiping. As if thirsty for the living water that Jesus promises us (John 7:38), my soul demanded to connect to the source, to recharge, to stay righteous in His eyes. How quickly God honored my commitment to worship Him seven times a day. Why is that? Because the LORD designed us to worship God, to have His Spirit live in us. It purifies us, it cleanses us, and when Jesus is in us, no evil can come near us.
Psalms 91:7
“A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.”
No, it won't be a lifetime of annoying electronic reminders. It will be a lifetime of WANTING to worship God every day, all day long. No, this isn't a religious thing where I get out a prayer cloth to dedicate time to prayer. This is between God and me. He is always on my mind. He would be, because His Spirit dwells in me, and because of that, nothing can hurt me.
Luke 10:19
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Bless the Lord, O my soul. Bless the Lord.
Amen
With Love in Jesus
